This is very unlike me to write a "non-kid" post, but Young Women's has become like another kid in my life--or to be exact, and extra 39 kids in my life. This past Tuesday, we celebrated our nine incoming Beehives at New Beginnings. Our cute group of young women taught our incoming girls through a story that has stood the test of time... The Wizard of Oz. Our theme was: "Come Unto Christ, for There's No Place Like Home. Thanks to my incredibly willing and talented board, this night turned out truly OZ-SOME! (Here's a glimpse at a bit of the fun, Mom!)
New Beehives got, well, what else?
Toto, of course!
Forgive the unfortunate crime scene, but some people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Sigh)
Our young women were taught that in the beginning of the movie, Dorothy was a meek and frightened girl, but in the end, she defeated the witch all on her own. She had become "strong and immovable."
"You always had the power, my dear.
You just had to learn it for yourself."
--Glinda
Each value was represented by an Oz character. For example, Glinda was a divine being (Divine Nature). Glinda could have intervened at any time, but instead, simply set Dorothy on the correct path--allowing her to experience lions, tigers, and bears... and even an evil witch who was determined to destroy Dorothy and "her little dog too!" Dorothy was promised that if she just stayed on the Yellow Brick Road, she would find her way home.
The Tin Man discovered that even though his body was not perfect, he was not worthless as he had once thought (Individual Worth). Christ teaches us that we have worth--simply because we are his children.
The Wicked Witch chose to become angry and revengeful when she lost her sister's shoes--and she had to be accountable for her actions. (Choice & Accountability)
It takes COURAGE to have INTEGRITY!
"Who can find a virtuous women,
for her price is far beyond ruby (slippers)!"
The Personal Progress is a Yellow Brick Road for young women that leads to the temple.
My most darling Laurel President, Abby. She was hy-ster-i-cal! She arrived by way of bubble and introduced our incoming Beehives...
... until she was interrupted by a cloud of smoke revealing the wicked witch a.k.a. camp director. "We'll have non of this personal progress nonsense at camp!" Hahaha! Luckily, she was melted before she caused too much damage.
What a fun night. . .
But I "Couldn't Be Happier" that it's over!
Next up: Camp... and youth conference... and youth musical fireside... and modesty fashion show...
Oh My!
